SaaS revenue analytics

Know where every dollar of growth came from.

Cohort Lab turns a raw table of monthly subscription revenue into the metrics a board asks for — ARR, MRR movements, net and gross retention, churn, and how each customer cohort ages.

36 months of synthetic data for a fictional SaaS company

Try it: switch to SMB vs Enterprise and compare net revenue retention, then flip the cohort view to Customers.

Definitions

New — MRR from customers with no revenue the month before (includes reactivations). Expansion / contraction — month-over-month increases or decreases from continuing customers. Churn — last month’s MRR from customers with no revenue this month.

NRR — today’s MRR from customers who were paying 12 months ago, divided by their MRR then. Above 100% means the existing base grows on its own. GRR — the same, but ignoring expansion: losses only.

Quick ratio — (new + expansion) ÷ (contraction + churn). Above 4 is considered efficient growth. Cohorts — customers grouped by first paying month, tracked as they age.

CSV columns: customer_id, month (YYYY-MM), mrr, optional segment. One row per customer per paying month. Sample data is synthetic.
